Nintendo Direct: Indie World Showcase Recap (Oct 2026) ๐ | Ep. 148
It was a fun one!
Transcript
What's up and welcome to me, you and Switch 2. I am me, Tom Tate, and you are you. So let's talk about Switch 2. This is the latest and greatest
Nintendo Switch 2 news brought to you every Tuesday and Friday in snackable five to 10 minute episodes.
Today happens to be Friday. It is October 30th. It is 8, 10 a.m. on the East Coast.
And this is episode 148. I hope that you had a great week. I mentioned last week that I was pre-recording.
So I recorded last Tuesday's episode on Sunday. So I feel like I've been away from a microphone much longer than I have been in like a year and a half.
So it feels even foreign, right? Just to sit in front of my actual computer and my actual microphone.
Luckily, we didn't miss that much. We didn't miss anything earth shattering, but there was a Nintendo Indie World showcase event on Wednesday.
So I'm going to dive in and share what I saw at that event.
It was live streamed on YouTube. I didn't catch it live. I caught it the next day. It was hosted by Kelly and Chris.
I think these are new people. Their voices sounded a little different than who we usually hear from.
I would have to go back and listen to see what their names are in the previous
Indie World Showcase directs.
They just sound a little bit different. But the show opened up with Witchbrook, which is a cozy pixel art game. This will release on January 28th, 2027.
This one looked like your standard, you know, life sim type of game, but the artwork is very, very cool.
Winds of Viridia was next. This looks like a pretty full world, you know, very well-formed, very cool kind of cel-shaded art style. I don't know.
It feels like an adventure RPG, kind of Zelda-like. Early 2027, there's a free demo available today. This one does look really sleek.
Winds of Viridia. I might check out that demo.
Next, we have City of None introduced by two brothers, one of which was one of the creators of Celeste, which is a great kind of pixel art precision platformer type of game. This is an action puzzle platformer.
It has a four color palette. It looks like an old school game for sure.
You have to use a whip to grab things and platform.
The whip is also used as a weapon. The game actually looks incredible.
So City of None looks really slick.
This is my kind of game, available 2027 for Switch 1 and Switch 2.
The next game was Sword of the Sea. This is a 3D adventure game.
Kind of had like a snowboarding, surfing type of thing going on.
It's from the designer of Abzu, The Pathless, and Journey, which all have very distinct art styles.
You can see it come through on this one. Next, we have Tenjutsu.
This is a self-described, fast-paced, top-down, roguelike brawler.
Stylized pixel art it's a beat-em-up game lots of action definitely some rpg leveling up mechanics that i saw in the trailer i think this will be a good one and it's published by devolver digital as well and they typically put out pretty good stuff.
Next up, we have a traditional RPG with some time travel plot elements.
This was called Threads of Time.
It looked a little like Sea of Stars, which I really enjoyed.
Summer 2027 looks like it's from a Canadian studio.
Good music, you know, turn-based combat. Like this has potential for sure. Threads of Time.
Next, we have Dumpster Gang. This is an online co-op sandbox style game where you play as raccoons.
It looks like multiplayer, untitled goose game, if you asked my opinion.
That's kind of the vibe that I was getting. You just go around creating mischief and solving puzzles. They actually called it a trash panda simulator.
This will release March, 2027.
After that, we had a game called Super Battle Golf. And this is just a speed golf multiplayer game where you use weapons and obstacles and items to screw up the other players while simultaneously trying to be the first to finish.
And this was really, really fun. This just looked like a fun, fast-paced game.
Uh it kind of reminded me of the last mario golf where it was just like a speed run type of, mode that they had available but this looks like that with more weapons and obstacles, march 25th 2027 next is repo this is an online co-op horror game uh super dark in tone creepy physics based game set in some strange locations, where i guess the whole point of the game is you repo items and then you sell them this is also 2027.
Next is Haunted Paws, P-A-W-S. This looked very cute. Like this was a cute and interesting game.
It has you playing as two puppies that need to rescue a human from a haunted mansion. There's some puzzle solving mini games.
Looked like there were some stealth sections as well. This was May. 2027. There's a free demo already available.
The next game had a really strange intro. So the developer of the game, which is called Katsune, The Journey of Adashino was wearing a cat mask as he was introducing or talking about the game.
And it was just really disarming. Like I just wasn't expecting it.
I really have no idea what's going on in the actual game. You are like a cat-like or a fox-like person going on some type of adventure.
I really didn't know what type of game this was, but it looked really good.
Like the graphics and the visual art style was really good for Katsune,
The Journey of Adoshino. I just couldn't tell what kind of game it was.
And maybe I was distracted as the developer and the cat mask was describing it.
Next was Slime Rancher 2. i'm not too familiar with slime rancher one but here you seem to vacuum up slime and explore a pretty colorful and interesting world i think there's some building elements like like a minecraft you know where you're building uh an environment you're decorating an environment not too sure but this is january 2027 spirit crossing is a game from, the cozy grove developers and cozy grove kind of made a splash on switch and switch two uh, it's a self-proclaimed collaborative life sim mmo, very bright and vibrant this is another cell shady game you can design and stylize your home you can decorate the areas around your home this will release soon november 16th that's spirit crossing.
Matt and millie from toot games in australia introduced their game my arms are longer now and they kind of self-described this game as stupid which i thought was interesting.
They said that it was unsettling, I think.
It will feature 48 fully voiced characters by Australian comedians.
This reminded me of another indie game called Thank Goodness You're Here, both in style. And that game is kind of irreverent. And this game felt kind of irreverent too.
But you just have this really long, stretchy arm thing that is interacting with people and places and environments around it.
That will release on March 11th. Next was a retro style pixel game called Petal
Runner that had a top down Pokemon vibe at first, but then it started to transform a little bit. This game looks absolutely amazing, like a work of art.
I watched the trailer twice for this one. I definitely encourage you to watch it at least once.
March 8th, 2027, just retro pixel style action.
Felt like a Game Boy game almost.
RackCoin Chaos Max Edition is a coin pusher roguelike.
You might have seen coin pushers at an arcade. It's one of those things where you just put coins in and it pushes more coins over the edge.
It's a weird thing to be in a game, but I think these are quite popular.
Just an addictive little repetitive game.
It will support mouse controls as well too. This will release on November 10th.
There's a free demo available now.
Okay, next to wrap it up, we have the speed round. They just kind of showed clips of a few quick games.
Tanuki Pwns Summer, November 10th. You play as a bike riding Tanuki mail carrier.
There was a little baseball action in this one too. Seems like there's a couple of mini games.
Next is Finding Polka, Spring 2027. From the Steam description, it says, set off on a playful search to track down the wandering pup Polka in this game of exploration and serendipity.
Meet charming characters, lend them a hand to make new friends and explore a cozy world sketched in ballpoint pen.
You don't need words on this adventure, just smiles and high fives.
And I was reading about this game, it sounds like it's a wordless.
So this is like a wordless puzzle game.
Next is Floor Plan, Slap Out of It, Spring 2027. From Steam, it says a slap and solve adventure that stretches your wits and your noodley arms in all directions.
In this game, you appear to be playing in like a first person view.
And you have like two of those like long stretchy sticky hands you know the ones that you can fling and i was reading about this game too and it sounds like it was originally a vr game on pc but it's been modified to play without the vr components, lost and found co will release in early 2027 from wikipedia it says lost and found co is a 2026 hidden object adventure game set in the fictional town of plumville the game follows ducky a duck transformed into a human boy by the goddess may, who helps her operate a lost property business to restore her waning powers players search illustrated animated scenes for hidden objects and characters complete object optional objectives and decorate ducky's room.
Bao Bao's cozy cleaning services is available now as of yesterday.
The listing for this sounds pretty amazing. So this is from the Steam listing.
It says, relax with Bao Bao in this cozy 2D pressure washing sim.
Clean pastel environments, chill lo-fi beats, and no stress.
Just peaceful vibes, play solo, or with up to three friends.
And I'm pretty sure Bao Bao is a panda, if I remember this trailer correctly, next we have everything is crab january 26th 2027.
Epic games has a listing for this one it says the animal evolution roguelites hunt flee scavenge and thrive in a living ecosystem, choose from over 100 mutations to evolve your creature in countless ways with every run and finally we have hyper yuki snowboard syndicate early 2027 this is a snowboarding game obviously the press release opening says it all, wabi-sabi games and acclaims hotly anticipated love letter, to the ssx franchise and the classic extreme sports games of the y2k era is carving its way onto the nintendo switch 2 in early 2027 they are really i'm just gonna say they're really tugging at my heartstrings talking about the classic extreme sports games of the y2k era that is hyper yuki snowboard syndicates, all right that's gonna be it for today i'll link to a few recaps in the show notes if you want to check it out the whole production was about 20 minutes so it's an easy watch if you want to check it out over the weekend see all the games in action uh one last note the duskbloods uh was delayed until 2027 we talked a lot about this game on the show it's the only notable headline that i caught this week it was supposed to release this year but obviously it's october 30th if we haven't heard about a release date yet we weren't going to so that game is definitely delayed.
Okay. I want to thank you so much for your time and your attention.
If you've got 10 seconds, keep the Apple podcast or Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts, keep the app open, leave a star rating, super helpful.
You don't have to write a single word if you don't want to.
This show runs on zero ads, zero promotion. I don't do any of that stuff.
So a rating is generally the easiest thing you can do to signal to a new listener that the show is worth listening to and just discoverability, helping a new listener stumble onto the show. And the more listeners, the better.
You can find everything at switch2pod.com. That's switch with the number two pod.com. I'm on Blue Sky Instagram, same handle.
And there's free bonus content over at patreon.com slash switch2pod.
But I'll be honest with you, there really isn't a lot there because I've been outrageously busy and I apologize. I hope to get back to it soon.
I do want to give a shout out to Mike, Rangy Mike over on Blue Sky, because he shouted me this morning, actually, and he showed me a screenshot of the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time loading onto his Switch 2.
So he shared that screenshot with me.
And he also shared the screenshot that said it's not available to play yet, obviously, but that game will be available this time next week.
So shout out to Mike for hitting me up on Blue Sky. Feel free to do the same if you're out there and you've got some content or questions, or you just want to tell me what you've been playing. I love hearing about what games you all have been playing.
So I will be back on Tuesday. I hope that you have a fantastic weekend.
Much love. Now go play some games.
