Transcript

What's up and welcome to me, you and Switch 2. I am me, Tom Tate, and you are you. So let's talk about Switch 2. This is the latest and greatest

Nintendo Switch 2 news brought to you every Tuesday and Friday in snackable five to 10 minute episodes. Today happens to be Friday.

It is October 9th. It is 7.56 a.m. on the East Coast.

This is episode 142.

Now, I hope that your week is going great. If not, I hope you're able to carve out some time this weekend to refuel.

It is friday we made it i know it's been a crazy week for me hopefully it's been all good for you i've been playing spider-man this week just a little bit i've had a few pockets at night where i'll fire up the ps5 i'm near the end of the game i'm at the final act i was ready to give up on this game and i'm glad that i didn't because this final push to the finale has been super fun like everything's coming together in a really interesting and fun way the action sequences are good, but I am ready to move on to a new game.

I'm thinking, you know, I have a couple of weeks before Ocarina of Time comes out. I'm trying to figure out what can I squeeze into like a three week period.

Uh, so we'll see, we'll see. I'm curious if you're playing anything good.

If you are, you can hit me up on blue sky or Instagram at switch to pod that switch with the number two pod, not a ton of news today.

Uh, city skylines expanded edition is coming to switch to on October 28th.

That announcement came this week.

This is a city builder and city management type game, kind of like SimCity.

I've never played City Skylines, but I have fond memories of playing SimCity and all the SimCities growing up.

So I've always had my eye on this one.

I didn't really have a gaming PC like ever. Like I had a laptop that could play some games and I recently got a Steam Deck, you know, over the past year or so. But,

Never played City Skylines because I don't remember the console versions being that good, but maybe I'm wrong.

Here's a quick look at what it will include. It will have 25 buildable tiles instead of nine.

It has a map editor, UX improvements, environmental controls panel, quick selection tool, different graphics options or performance, which would be 60 frames per second or quality, which would be 30 frames per second, keyboard and mouse support 10 dlc expansions and contact content packs included, so this feels like the definitive edition and hopefully it'll run well on switch two, famitsu the japanese publication gave castlevania belmont's curse eights across the board so four eights totaling 32 out of 40 not terrible.

It's a good score for Famitsu. It's probably not going to put it in the game of the year territory, which I think a lot of people were curious.

Like, is this going to be like the killer game? The ultimate Castlevania?

We'll find out soon. It releases on October 15th. So we'll find out as the other reviews start rolling in next week.

We've had a lot of games drop recently. There were so many games that released yesterday on October 8th. So let me just recap some of the reviews that I've been seeing. Not all of them, but some.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Dark Arisen reviews started popping up this week.

This is a Capcom RPG. It released in 2024 on Xbox Series S and X and PlayStation 5.

It is finally arriving on Switch 2 and there are some pretty decent reviews popping up.

Nintendo World Reports, John

Rarden and Neil Ronigan, they did a bit of a conversational co-review.

So it's almost like a back and forth dialogue that they just transcripted, but they gave this game an 8.5. The summary, the pros, fun to explore, lots of party and character customization, nice suite of graphics options, and runs well on Switch.

The cons, can be overwhelming, and very thin narrative.

Nintendo Life's Scott McRae gave it a 9 out of 10, which is a great score for Nintendo Life.

The quote that I pulled out of that review, Dragon's Dogma 2 is still one of the best action RPGs around.

The game getting a second chance at life with a massive string of updates alongside an expansion that gives me a reason to spend more time in the world and offers up some of its most challenging moments is cause for celebration enough.

It running on the Switch 2 as well as it does when even the PS5 struggled is a testament to just how Capcom is proving to be one of the best developers for the console.

I couldn't agree with that line more. I mean, Capcom is doing amazing work getting their games running as well as they are on Switch 2.

Resident Evil, Pragmata, you know, now this, getting good reviews.

I'm excited to see Capcom continue to support the Switch 2.

He also described the new DLC as being very difficult. So if you'd like a challenge, this might be a good opportunity to revisit this game.

IGN gave it an 8 out of 10, saying Dragon's Dogman 2, Dark Arisen is an engrossing expansion full of interesting new characters, vibrant enemies, and the wonderful wreckage of a bygone civilization.

I will also link to Nintendo Life's review Roundup if you want to see what other publications said about this game, and I'll link to all the reviews that I already referenced.

Another game that released was Jonathan Blow's Order of the Sinking Star.

This is a new puzzle game by the creator of Braid and The Witness.

First, I read Giovanni Colantonio's review over on Polygon. This review was titled, The 500-hour Order of the Sinking Star is as complex and exhausting as it sounds.

This is a long review. He does say, The creative vision behind Order of the

Sinking Star is brilliant, if not ingenious. So he does applaud this game for the scope and for just the ingenuity of it.

But overall, it seemed like he was lukewarm because like the story doesn't really drive the game forward. The difficulty never really lets up.

And it's a really long game. I think he said he played over 20 hours, but this game can be 500 hours, you know, or so it touts.

He also mentions blows politics, his political views, some drama behind the scenes with the team of designers that helped build the game.

So there's a little bit more in this article that I won't get into that he gets into. I'll link to it if you want to read all of it.

But he paints a really strong full picture of this game.

Nintendo Life's Ryan Garb, seemingly felt more engaged though he still recognizes that this is a very hard game he summed up his review saying, order of the sinking star is a puzzler made for the real sickos who could spend hours grinding down one stage the mechanics remain simple enough to feel accessible but are expanded upon with commendable creativity, while it doesn't let you experiment to any great degree it will leave you feeling like a genius after solving one puzzle before leaving you completely clueless in the next.

Not everyone likes that feeling, but I relished it.

He gave this one an eight out of 10. I'm going to link in the show notes to a few other things that you might be interested in checking out.

Again, Giovanni at Polygon also posted a review for forever ago.

This is an Annapurna game.

And he, I think, referred to it as like the most Annapurna game Annapurna could create.

He called it a tearjerker, I think. So it's a very story-driven game, very emotional, kind of that cel-shaded art style.

I did play Mixtape earlier this year. I loved it. So if it's anything like Mixtape in terms of having similar sensibilities, I'm definitely interested in this game.

But I'll link up to that review if you want to learn more about Forever Ago.

And then Nintendo Life's Jim Norman has just a general roundup of previews for

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

This game releases on October 22nd, and all the previews were fairly favorable, saying positive things about this, not really reinventing the formula of a Nintendo

Switch Sports game or a Wii Sports game, how I grew up knowing it, but just saying generally positive things.

So I'm not going to read a bunch of those or spend a lot of time on those.

We've talked a lot about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort because they've been covering it since they announced it at the Nintendo Direct, where they showed the thumb wrestling demo, which I thought was very cute and fun.

So I'm not going to talk about this, but I will link to it. So if you want to read more about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, you can.

But that's pretty much it. That's it for today.

You know, I was thinking earlier this week about doing like an Amazon deal roundup because they had their prime deal days. If you're an Amazon prime member, um, I did not want to do that.

There were so many other outlets kind of cobbling together their deal roundups for the latest video game, uh, steals, but I didn't feel compelled to do that.

I did get a continuous radon monitor on Amazon prime deal days, which, you know, is probably the most middle-aged thing anyone could possibly do.

So now in my basement, I will have a continuous monitor to make sure that my radon levels are appropriate because I am down here gaming and quite a bit, right?

And podcasting. So I want to make sure that the air I breathe is safe, right? So hopefully you got something a little bit more fun than I did if you took advantage of the Amazon Prime deals earlier this week.

And then I also read a note that Best Buy is doing some midnight openings for.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time next month.

So if you're looking for the console, which I think pre-orders sold out like crazy, they will have some on hand. That's what I read.

You'll have to check with your local Best Buy to confirm that.

And I don't know how many units they'll have, but if you're looking for that limited edition Ocarina of Time console, you might be able to get it with a midnight release.

Okay, that's definitely it for today. If you enjoy the show, take 10 seconds to hop into your podcast listening app of choice, leave a review. You don't even have to write anything, but a star review helps other people discover the show.

Reviews, recommendations, word of mouth, that really keeps the show growing every single week. And I am super grateful. I want to thank you so much for your time and your attention.

Switch2Pod.com for all the things that switch with the number 2 pod.

Dot com uh all the show notes all the links to blue sky and instagram and all that stuff places where you can find me if you need to reach me much love enjoy the weekend now go play some games.
